About Montessori
The Montessori Philosophy
The Montessori education philosophy was founded by Maria Montessori in 1907. She was a lifelong educator, philosopher, humanitarian and Italy’s first female physician. Montessori’s principles for early childhood include freedom, grace and courtesy, independence, order and respect, with the specially-prepared Montessori environment designed to provide the child with both a solid academic foundation and strong ‘character education.’
Dr. Maria Montessori developed the Montessori Method of Education based on her years of research and scientific observations of children. This child- centered approach builds upon the way children naturally learn, and explores many concepts that you won’t find in a traditional preschool.
Along with authentic Montessori learning materials and a carefully crafted learning environment, the following concepts make up the ideal Montessori preschool.
Montessori is an innovative, child- centered approach to education, developed a century ago by Dr Maria Montessori.
Montessori is an education philosophy and practice that fosters rigorous, self-motivated growth for children and adolescents in all areas of their development, with a goal of nurturing each child’s natural desire for knowledge, understanding, and respect.
When a child is given a little leeway, he will at once shout, ’I want to do it!’ But in our schools, which have an environment adapted to children’s needs, they say, ‘Help me to do it alone.’
